Touch and close fasteners
1 Scope
This document provides the terms and definitions, product classification, designation and coding for touch and close fasteners, specifies the requirements, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document is applicable to the design, production and quality control of woven touch and close fasteners made from fibre materials such as polyamide and polyester, where the hook and loop surfaces are on different tapes.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 33278, as well as the following, apply.
3.1
touch and close fasteners
Flexible tape fasteners made from fibre materials such as polyamide and polyester, consisting of a hook surface and a loop surface, which fasten by engagement of hooks and loops and can be freely engaged and disengaged.
3.2
effective width
The width of the touch and close fastener perpendicular to its length direction, excluding the base edges.
[Source: GB/T 33278-2016, 3.1.15]
3.3
closure area
The overlapping area after the hook tape and loop tape are engaged.
[Source: GB/T 33278-2016, 3.1.16]
3.4
effective length
The dimension of the closure area in the length direction of the touch and close fastener.
[Source: GB/T 33278-2016, 3.3.1]
3.5
shear strength
Under specified test conditions, the maximum force required per unit area to separate the hook tape and loop tape in parallel by pulling the closure area of the touch and close fastener at a constant speed along its length direction.
3.6
peel strength
Under specified test conditions, the force required per unit effective width to separate the hook tape and loop tape of an engaged touch and close fastener by pulling from one end in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the fastener.
4 Product classification, designation and coding
4.1 Hook fasteners are generally classified into conventional woven hook tape, soft fine woven hook tape and mushroom-head hook tape. Loop fasteners are generally classified into woven brushed loop tape and woven unbrushed loop tape.
4.2 Touch and close fasteners are classified by the combination of hook tape and loop tape. The classification and product designations are given in Table 1.
4.3 The product coding of touch and close fasteners may be structured according to product designation, product strength grade, hook tape material type, loop tape material type, fatigue resistance, width and additional information, as detailed below. Product coding may also be established by agreement between the relevant parties.
(1) Product designation: see Table 1;
(2) Product strength grade: Grade I and II are denoted by 1 and 2 respectively; ungraded products are denoted by 0;
(3) Hook tape material type: including ground and hook materials, denoted by generic symbols in accordance with GB/T 4146.1, e.g. PA;
(4) Loop tape material type: including ground and loop materials, denoted by generic symbols in accordance with GB/T 4146.1, e.g. PA;
(5) Fatigue resistance: e.g. 5000 cycles, denoted as 5000;
(6) Product width: expressed in millimetres (mm);
(7) Additional information: additional functional information such as flame retardant, antistatic, water resistant, etc. May be omitted if no additional information.
Example 1: Conventional woven hook tape + woven brushed loop tape, strength grade reaching Grade II, both hook and loop materials made of polyamide fibre, fatigue resistance of 5000 cycles, width 110 mm, with flame retardant function. Product code: A-2-PA-PA-5000-110-FR.
Example 2: Soft fine woven hook tape + woven unbrushed loop tape, ungraded strength, hook material made of polyester and polyamide fibres, loop material made of polyamide fibre, fatigue resistance of 5000 cycles, width 50 mm. Product code: D-0-PES/PA-PA-5000-50.
