1.0.1 Highway
Highway, equipped with certain technical requirements and equipments, connects the urban, countries and industrial/mineral bases and is mainly for automobiles.
1.0.2 Road
The engineering facilities are used for various vehicles (railless) and pedestrians. They are classified into highway, urban road, forest road, factories and mines roads and country road according to their functional qualities.
1.0.3 Highway Engineering
It refers to an overall process of planning, design, construction, curing and management by taking highway as the object as well as the engaged engineering entities of the road.
1.0.4 Highway Network
It refers to the highway system in which highways communicate with each other and are interwoven into a network in a certain region.
1.0.5 Highway Density
It refers to the ratio of the total highway mileage to the region area in a certain region.
1.0.6 Highway Classification
Technology classification is conducted for the highways according to their traffic volume, service task and property. Highways are classified into freeways, arterial highways, secondary highways, tertiary highways and Class IV highways in the current national standard "Technical Standard of Highway Engineering".
1.0.7 Climatic Zoning for Highway
The physiographical regions are divided according to the influence of such conditions as climate, hydrology, geology, topography and other conditions throughout the country on the highway engineering to provide the relevant parameters for subgrade/pavement design and route survey. "Climatic Zoning Map for Highway of the People's Republic of China" is listed in the current national standard "Standard of Climatic Zoning for Highway".
1.0.8 Highway Right-of-way
Zones are expropriated for building and maintaining the highway as well as the highway-side facilities in accordance with the national requirements.
