Technical Specification for Evaluation of New Varieties of Chinese Materia Medica (Botanicals)
1 Scope
This document defines the terms and definitions of evaluation of new varieties of Chinese herbal medicines (botanical medicines), stipulates the evaluation content and basis, variety test, evaluation requirements, evaluation rules and record materials, etc.
This document is applicable to the field evaluation and registration of new varieties of Chinese herbal medicines (botanical medicines).

There are no normative references in this document.
3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 Botanical medicine medicinal plants
The medicinal parts of medicinal plants harvested by the origin of the original medicinal material formed by primary processing.
3.2 species variety
The original species of Chinese herbal medicine, which has been artificially selected or discovered and improved, and is distinctly different from the existing species, with morphological characteristics and biology.
It is a group of medicinal plants with relatively consistent morphological and biological characteristics and relatively stable genetic traits.
3.3 strain
It is a group of plants with specific genotypes and phenotypes that originated from the same ancestor and became varieties before.
3.4 Chinese medicine materials variety certification
The process of evaluation and registration of varieties by the Chinese medicine materials variety evaluation institution.
3.5 bred variety
A bred variety is formed after breeding and is distinctly different from other varieties of the species in one or several characteristics, with relatively stable genetic traits and relatively consistent morphological and biological characteristics.
The varieties with relatively stable genetic traits and relatively consistent morphological and biological characteristics are formed after breeding.
3.6 introduced variety
The variety introduced from abroad, successfully planted in domestic trials, and has excellent traits and utilization value.
3.7 Local variety
Varieties that have been cultivated in a certain area for a long time, adapt to local climate and soil conditions, and have good economic and ecological values.
3.8 wild domesticated variety
The wild plants are domesticated through introduction, successfully cultivated, and have the value of utilization.
3.9
Adaptability
The ability of a variety to adapt to the climate, soil and cultivation conditions of its cultivation area.
3.10
stress tolerance
The ability of a variety to resist and tolerate biotic and abiotic adversities.
Note: Including disease resistance, insect resistance, drought resistance, cold resistance, collapse resistance, etc.
3.11
Control variety
In the same ecological type zone, the known varieties with good representation are promoted and applied in the same production period.
3.12
Abundance yielding ability
Yielding performance of varieties.
Note: The average percentage of yield increase of the variety over the control variety in the experiment and the significance of the difference are expressed.
3.13
yielding stability
The yielding stability of the variety in the inter-site and inter-annual trials relative to the control variety.
Note: The evaluation is based on the proportion of the increase in yield of the variety over the control variety to the total number of aggregated trial sites in the trial
3.14
Quality
The appearance quality, inner quality and traits related to processing quality of Chinese herbal varieties
3.15
Distinctness
A plant variety has more than one trait distinct from the known varieties
