本标准适用于标称电压高于1 000V、频率不大于100Hz的交流架空线路用瓷或玻璃盘形悬式绝缘子串件。本标准也适用于变电站使用的类似结构的绝缘子。本标准既适用于球窝连接也适用于槽形连接的盘形悬式绝缘子串件。本标准适用于清洁地区和污秽地区的架空线路绝缘子串件。对用于污秽水平很严重的地区和其他特殊的或极端环境条件下，改变某些尺寸可能是需要的。绝缘子件可选择不同的爬电距离、结构高度和形状(例如开放形、半球形等)。对用于直流系统的绝缘子可能也需选择不同的尺寸。在任何情况下，推荐采用本标准规定的标准化的机械特性和连接尺寸。本标准规定了盘形悬式绝缘子串件的机械特性和主要尺寸的特征值。本标准未规定绝缘子串件的工频、雷电冲击和击穿耐受电压值。GB/T 1001.1-2003规定了绝缘子串件的电气特性，其值应该由供需双方商定。
