1 Scope
This document describes the determination methods of six phthalate esters in furniture products and related materials by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). This document, after being verified, may be referenced to for the determination of other phthalate esters.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
phthalates
general name of esters generated by the reaction of phthalic acid and alcohol, whose chemical structure is characterized by two symmetric or asymmetric alkyl formate esters in the ortho positions of benzene ring

4 Principle
Phthalates in specimens are extracted with dichloromethane in Soxhlet extractor or ultrasonic generator, and the extract is determined by GC-MS after diluted to the scale.
5 Reagents or materials
Water used shall meet the requirements for Grade 3 water as specified in GB/T 6682.
5.1 Dichloromethane
Analytically or chromatographically pure.
5.2 Phthalate standard substance
With purity not less than 95%; see Table 1.
