This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 8063-1994 Designation of Cast Nonferrous Metals and Their Alloys.
Compared with GB/T 8063-1994, the main technical changes in this standard are as follows:
——Application scope of this standard was modified, cast zirconium and zirconium alloy were added (see Chapter 1, and Chapter 1 of 1994 edition);
——Terms and definitions of alloying element, rare earth element and extra low interstitial were added (see 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3);
——Expression examples of cast pure zirconium and zirconium alloy designation were added (see Chapter 6);
——Expression examples of cast magnesium alloy and titanium alloy designation were modified (see Chapter 6, and Chapter 5 of 1994 edition).
This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of SAC/TC 54 National Technical Committee on Foundry of Standardization Administration of China.
The previous editions of the standard replaced by this standard are as follows:
——GB/T 8063-1987 and GB/T 8063-1994.
Designation of Cast Nonferrous Metals and Their Alloys
1 Scope
This standard specifies terms and definitions, designation expression method and example of cast nonferrous metals and their alloys.
This standard is applicable to cast nonferrous metals such as aluminum, magnesium, titanium, copper, zirconium, nickel, cobalt, zinc, tin, and lead as well as their alloys.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
alloying element
metal or nonmetal element added or reserved in base metal in order to obtain alloy with specific performance
3.2
rare earth element
a general term of 17 special elements, lanthanide in periodic table - La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Y and Sc
3.3
extra low interstitial; ELI
elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen with especially low content in titanium alloy
4 Designation Expression Method of Cast Nonferrous Pure Metal
Designation of cast nonferrous pure metal consists of "Z", element symbol of corresponding pure metal and figure indicating nominal content of purity or figures indicating product grade.
5 Designation Expression Method of Cast Nonferrous Alloy
5.1 Designation of cast nonferrous alloy consists of "Z", element symbol of base metal, symbols of main alloying elements and figure indicating nominal content of alloying elements.
5.2 If there are more than 2 alloying elements, element symbols indicating main features of alloy and figures indicating their nominal content shall be indicated in alloy designation.
5.3 Symbols of alloying elements are arranged according to degressive sequence of their nominal contents. If their nominal contents are equal, they are arranged according to alphabet sequence of element symbols. If alloying element determining alloy category shall be listed firstly, however its content, the element symbol shall be placed behind the base element.
5.4 Except nominal content of base element, nominal contents of all alloying elements shall be marked behind the element symbol; if alloying element content is specified to be larger than or equal to 1% of certain range, integral value of its average content is taken. Where necessary, it may also be marked with a figure with one decimal. If alloying element content is less than 1%, it is generally not marked; only alloying element with significant impact on alloy performance may be marked with one decimal for its average content.
5.5 Rules for rounding off of numerical values shall meet the requirements specified in GB/T 8170.
5.6 For alloys with the same major components for which extra low interstitial shall be controlled, (ELI) shall be added at the end of the designation.
5.7 For alloys with the same major components and different requirements for impurity limit, "A, B, C……" shall be added at the end of designation to indicate grade.
