1 Scope
This standard specifies terms/definitions, designation, technical requirements, sampling requirements, test methods, test rules, marking, packing and storage / transportation of gray iron castings.
This standard is applicable to grey iron castings casted in sand mould or moulds with the heat conductivility same to sand mould, and the grey iron castings casted with other moulds may reference to this standard.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms specified in GB/T 5611 as well as the following terms and definitions apply in this standard.
Relevant wall thickness
Section thickness of the casting, agreed between the supply and demand parties, to which the determined mechanical properties apply
4 Designations of Gray Iron Castings
The denotation method for material designation in this standard shall comply with the requirements GB/T 5612.
In this standard, based on the minimum tensile strength measured from the standard tensile test pieces processed by φ 30mm separately cast test pieces, gray iron castings are divided into ones respectively with the designations HT100, HT150, HT200, HT225, HT250, HT275, HT300 and HT350 (see Table 1).
