1 Application scope
This standard specifies 5-Cl-PADAB spectrophotometry for determination of dissolved cobalt and total cobalt in water.
This standard is applicable to the determination of cobalt in surface water, industrial wastewater and domestic sewage.
When the sampling volume is 20.0 mL, the detection limit of the method is 0.009mg/L, the lower limit of determination is 0.036mg/L, and the upper limit of determination is 0.500 mg/L.

For the purpose of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Dissolved cobalt
the cobalt determined after the non-acidified sample passes through a 0.45μm pore size filter membrane
3.2 Total cobalt
the cobalt measured in unfiltered samples, i.e. the sum of dissolved and suspended cobalt in the sample
