本标准规定了太湖地区城镇污水处理厂及重点工业行业主要水污染物排放限值的术语和定义、污染物排放控制要求、监测及监督实施要求。
本标准适用于太湖地区城镇污水处理厂、纺织工业、化学工业、造纸工业、钢铁工业、电镀工业、食品工业中化学需氧量、氨氮、总氮、总磷四种主要水污染物的排放管理，以及建设项目的环境影响评价、环境保护设施设计、竣工验收及其投产后的排放管理。本标准中未作规定的其他水污染物执行现行相应标准。
