Foreword
This code was formulated according to the arrangement in Document (JIZONG [1996], No.40) of the Ministry of Power Industry - “Power Industry Standard Plan in 1996”.
Blend the polymer emulsion or water soluble polymer into the newly-mixed cement mortar to greatly improve the performance of ordinary cement mortar, the prepared organic-inorganic compound material is called as Polymer Modified Cement Mortar (hereinafter referred to as PMC).
Such material has higher tensile strength, its performances such as gluing, water resistance and corrosion resistance are higher than the ordinary cement mortar. In order to adapt to the popularization and application of such material, the standard test methods for polymer modified cement mortar were established in America, Britain, German, Japan and other countries. The American Concrete Institute (ACI) established 548 committees to specially take in charge of polymer concrete, they organized the research units and universities concerned to establish the test code for PMC through modification and supplementation based on the concrete test method of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) established the technical standard for the application of polymer modified cement mortar in bridge deck repair. Both Japan Concrete Institute (JCI) and German Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering specially established the standards for performance test of polymer modified cement mortar. The testing methods and quality standards for PMC were included in both Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) and Britain Standards (BS).
The polymer modified cement mortar has been studied and applied for more than 30 years in China, and has been widely used in the repair of defect and breakage of such concrete structures as water resources and hydropower engineering, harbor engineering, bridge, tunnel, subway, highway and municipal engineering, the anti-seepage & anti-corrosion treatment and repair of freezing thawing erosion of concrete surface, and the treatment of new-to-old concrete interface. However, the uniform test code and technical standard have not yet been established in the long term, which is adverse to the popularization and application of this technology. Therefore, the editors undertook the task to compile the PMC test code, and compiled this test code by making reference to the domestic and foreign relevant data and combining with the actual situation of China.
Appendix A and Appendix B of this standard are normative.
