GB 774《指纹特征规范》分为五个部分，本部分为GA 774的第2部分。
本部分代替GA 425.3-2003《指纹自动识别系统基础技术规范第3部分：指纹纹型分类及代码》。
本部分自实施之日起GA 425.3-2003即行废止。
GB 774的本部分规定了指纹纹型分类方法与描述。
本部分适用于指纹自动识别系统。
本部分与GA 425.3-2003相比有如下变化：
——增加了箕头、箕口、上箕枝、下箕枝的定义；
——删除了纹型分类代码表，修订了部分内容。
