1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements of identification for passenger cars and their parts on the main parts of passenger cars.
This standard is applicable to category M1 vehicles.
Identification for the parts (or assembly) of other passenger cars may make reference to this standard.

3 Terminologies and Definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terminologies and definitions apply.
3.1
Interior surface
As far as parts of passenger cars are concerned, the surface not directly exposed to the sun or the rain.
4 Identification Information for Passenger Cars and Their Parts
Identification information for passenger cars and their parts shall be either:
a) Vehicle identification number (VIN) specified in GB 16735-2004, or
b) Part (or assembly) No., which shall be of traceability and uniqueness, corresponding to VIN of the passenger car on which the part (or assembly) is mounted.
5 Identification Number and Position for Passenger Cars and Their Parts
5.1 As for passenger cars, identification for passenger cars and their parts as specified in a) of Chapter 4 shall be marked on the luggage compartment at eye-catching position; that as specified in a) or b) of Chapter 4 shall be marked on the transmission (or the drive motor).
5.2 Passenger car shall have at least one electronic control unit (ECU) that unalterably records the identification information for passenger cars and their parts specified in a) of Chapter 4. The ECU shall provide effective communication interface, through which the identification information for passenger cars and their parts is read, and ECU design shall meet the requirements of corresponding standards with regard to communication protocol.
5.3 Except for those specified in 5.1 and 5.2, the passenger car shall also have at least 5 pieces of part (or assembly) that are marked with identification for passenger cars and their parts specified in a) or b) of Chapter 4. Vehicle manufacturers may determine, by themselves, the category of part (or assembly) to be marked with identification for passenger cars and their parts.
5.4 The part (or assembly) marked with identification for passenger cars and their parts as specified in 5.3 excludes that marked with VIN as specified in 5.2.2, 5.2.3 and 5.2.4 of GB 16735-2004.
