1 Scope
This document specifies terms related to umbrella products, specifies safety requirements and marking, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document applies to the production, inspection and sale of various umbrella products.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 umbrella
A tool composed of a shaft, ribs and a canopy, used for rain protection and sun protection.
3.2 children’s umbrella
An umbrella designed or intended for use by children aged above 3 years and under 14 years (including 14 years), or an umbrella marked for use by children.
NOTE: A straight umbrella with a canopy length of 43 cm or less is generally considered a children‘s umbrella unless otherwise specified.
3.3 tip
Component at the end of a rib used to secure the rib and the canopy.
3.4 removable component
Umbrella part or component that can be detached from a children’s umbrella without the use of a tool.
4 Product classification
4.1 According to the opening and closing method, umbrellas can be classified as manually opened and closed, manually opened and selfclosed, selfopening and manually closed, and selfopening and selfclosing.
4.2 According to the rib structure, umbrellas can be classified as straightribbed umbrellas and folding umbrellas.
4.3 According to the following methods of use, they can be classified as:
—— Handheld umbrellas: reversible umbrellas, plastic umbrellas, oiled paper umbrellas, paper umbrellas, craft umbrellas, etc.;
—— Fixed umbrellas: sun umbrellas, garden umbrellas, etc.
5 Requirements
5.1 Edges and points
There shall be no sharp edges or sharp points on parts that may be contacted during use.
5.2 Top cap
5.2.1 The length of the top cap of a standard umbrella shall not be greater than 95 mm, and that of a children‘s umbrella shall not be greater than 50 mm.
NOTE: Top caps with an outer diameter at the tip of 20 mm or more are not subject to this requirement.
5.2.2 The tip of the top cap shall be spherical, rounded or arcshaped. The outer diameter at the tip shall not be less than 7.4 mm for a standard umbrella, and shall not be less than 15 mm for a children’s umbrella.
5.3 Tip finial (and ferrule)
5.3.1 The end face of the tip finial shall be spherical or arcshaped. The outer diameter of the tip finial shall not be less than 3 mm for a standard umbrella, and shall not be less than 5 mm for a children‘s umbrella.
5.3.2 The connection between the tip finial and the rib shall comply with one of the following requirements:
—— The depth of insertion of the rib into the tip finial shall not be less than 10 mm, and for a children’s umbrella, shall not be less than 15 mm;
—— The connection strength (pull force) between the tip finial and the rib shall not be less than 30 N, and for a children‘s umbrella, shall not be less than 40 N.
5.3.3 The connection strength (pull force) between the tip finial and the canopy shall not be less than 30 N.
5.4 Handle
5.4.1 The diameter of the handle of a children’s umbrella shall not be less than 15 mm, and its end face shall be spherical or arcshaped.
5.4.2 For a children‘s umbrella with a handle bent into a "U" or "C" shape, the internal clearance of the handle shall not be less than 35 mm, and the internal clearance at the opening shall not be greater than 60 mm.
5.5 Opening and closing mechanism
5.5.1 During the test described in 6.5.1, selfopening and manually closed umbrellas and selfopening and selfclosing umbrellas shall not open spontaneously.
5.5.2 After the test described in 6.5.2, children‘s umbrellas shall not open.
5.6 Chemical substances
5.6.1 Hazardous elements in the handle and canopy
The content of migratable hazardous elements in the handle and canopy of the product shall not exceed the maximum limits specified in Table 1.

5 Requirements
