This document applies to fire suction hoses used for drawing water or foam solution during firefighting and rescue operations.
2 Normative References
The following documents contain provisions which, through normative reference in this text, constitute essential provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 fire suction hose
An assembly consisting of a hose and fire couplings, used for drawing water or foam solution from natural water sources, fire water tanks, outdoor fire hydrants, foam storage tanks, etc.
NOTE: Hereinafter referred to as "suction hose".
3.2 straight suction hose
A suction hose that is in a straight state and not easily bendable.
3.3 bending suction hose
A suction hose that is in a coiled state and can be deployed, pulled out, and used in a bent configuration during operation.
4 Classification and Type Designation
4.1 Classification
4.1.1 Suction hoses are classified by hose shape characteristics into:
a) Straight suction hoses;
b) Bending suction hoses.
4.1.2 Suction hoses are classified by material characteristics into:
5 Performance Requirements
5.1 Construction and Materials
5.1.1 Rubber suction hoses shall consist of an outer cover, a reinforcement layer, and an inner tube. The material for both the outer cover and the inner tube shall be water-resistant rubber. The reinforcement layer shall be composed of textile materials and may incorporate a helix made of metal or other rigid materials.
5.1.2 Plastic suction hoses shall consist of a flexible thermoplastic water conveying layer and a rigid spiral reinforcement layer, with an optional outer textile layer (when applicable).
5.2 Appearance Quality
5.2.1 The inner and outer surfaces of the suction hose shall be smooth, free from holes, bubbles, cracks, or other defects that could affect performance. For suction hoses with a corrugated or spiraled outer surface, the helix spacing shall be uniform.
5.2.2 The water conveying layer and the reinforcement layer of plastic suction hoses shall be tightly bonded, free from cracks or other defects.
5.2.3 The suction hose couplings shall be free from obvious scratches and deformation. The inner and outer surfaces of couplings made of aluminum or cast iron shall be treated for corrosion protection.
5.3 Suction Hose Inner Diameter
The nominal size and tolerance of each inner diameter specification of the suction hose shall comply with the provisions in Table 2.
Table 2 — Nominal size and tolerance of suction hose inner diameter
5.8 Vacuum Resistance
During the vacuum resistance test, the suction hose shall not exhibit delamination, indentation, or collapse. The inner wall of the hose shall have no protrusions, cracks, or other defects. During the measurement of the radial contraction rate of the inner diameter, the solid ball shall be able to pass through the entire length of the suction hose without obstruction. The axial contraction rate of the hose shall not exceed 10%, and the axial residual contraction rate shall not exceed 2%.
5.9 Load Bending Resistance
During the load bending resistance test, the suction hose shall not show permanent deformation or cracks. The radial contraction rate of the hose shall not exceed 5%, and the radial residual contraction rate shall not exceed 2%.
5.10 Bending Resistance
During the bending resistance test, straight suction hoses shall not exhibit twisting, cracking, or delamination.
5.11 Flexibility
For bending suction hoses, the flexibility force at room temperature shall not exceed 100 N, and at -30 °C ± 5 °C shall not exceed 150 N. The hose shall not exhibit twisting, cracking, rupture, or delamination.
5.12 Coiling Performance
For bending suction hoses, at room temperature and at -30 °C ± 5 °C, the change rate of extended length shall not exceed 5%, and the hose shall not exhibit twisting, cracking, rupture, or delamination.
5.13 Adhesion Strength Between Layers
For rubber suction hoses, the adhesion strength between the inner tube and the reinforcement layer, and between the outer cover and the reinforcement layer, shall not be less than 2.0 kN/m.
5.14 Aging Resistance
5.14.1 UV Radiation Resistance
After the UV radiation resistance test, plastic suction hoses shall not exhibit cracks, fractures, or defects that affect normal use.
