The pentavalent arsenic in the sample solution of the ashed or digested specimen will be reduced to trivalent arsenic under the action of kalium iodide and stannous chloride. The trivalent arsenic will generate arsine gas with the nascent hydrogen. The hydrogen sulfide interference is removed by cotton immersed in lead acetate solution and then the arsine gas acts with silver diethyl dithio carbamate which is dissolved in triethanolamine - chloroform and generate brownish red collargol silver; then colorimetric assay is conducted. Cobalt, nickel, mercury, silver, platinum, chromium and molybdenum may interfere the generation of arsine, but under normal conditions, the content in cosmetics will not cause interference. Stibium has an obvious interference on the determination.
