本部分为GB/T 15972的第54部分。本部分代替GB/T 15972.5-1998《光纤总规范　第５部分：环境性能试验方法》第７章。本部分为第一次修订，它与GB/T 15972.5×其他部分一起代替GB/T 15972.5-1998。本标准规定了评估光纤和光缆在给定的伽玛辐照环境中性能的测量方法和试验程序。适用于测定成缆或未成缆A1类、A2类多模光纤和B类多模光纤因暴露在伽玛辐照下产生的辐照感应衰减值。本部分与GB/T 15972.5-1998《光纤总规范　第5部分：环境性能试验方法》第7章相比主要变化如下：
———有关背景的描述作为附录Ａ 给出（１９９８年版的７．１．１；本版的附录Ａ）；
———删除了图２和图３（见１９９８年版的７．３）；
———删除了表２（见１９９８年版的７．４．４）；
———暴露在伽玛辐照下的环境背景辐照效应，将由试样受到的标称剂量率为０．２Ｇｙ／ｈ、暴露的总剂量为１Ｇｙ，改为将由试样受到的标称剂量率为０．０２Ｇｙ／ｈ、暴露的总剂量为０．１Ｇｙ确定（１９９８年版的７．４．３；本版的５．３）；
———暴露在伽玛辐照下的有害核辐照效应，将由试样受到的标称剂量率和总剂量组合之一，改为将由试样受到的标称剂量率为1000Ｇｙ／ｈ、暴露的总剂量为１０００Ｇｙ确定（１９９８年版的７．４．４表２；本版的５．４）；
