本标准等同采用ISO 10303-47：2000《工业自动化系统与集成 产品数据表达与交换 第47部分：集成通用资源：形状变化公差》。
GB/T 16656的本部分规定了表达产品形状的尺寸和公差的资源结构。尺寸表达了形状的大小和形状可确认部分的位置。公差规定了定义产品形状和尺寸的允许偏差。本部分给出的尺寸和公差表达适用于二维和三维零件几何模型。
本部分在技术内容上与ISO 10303：2000保持一致，仅由于为将其转为国家标准，根据我国国家标准的制定要求，作了如下编辑性改动：
对于带下划线的用于EXPRESS语言描述的各黑体英文实体名、属性名和函数名等，为了既要维护其英文原意又要便于了解其名称代表的意思，在本部分中，当其作为标题出理时，标出了其中文译名；但在正文中，以英文为主，仅在正文中第一次出现或必要时，才将中文译名括起来放在英文原名后。
本部分代替GB/T 16656.47-2001《工业自动化系统与集成 产品数据表达与交换 第47部分：集成通用资源：形状变化公差》。本部分与GB/T 16656.47-2001相比，主要技术差异为：
