3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 16702.1-2025 and the following are applicable to this document.
3.1
low pressure storage tank
equipment isolated from the external atmosphere inside and at low pressure without pressure-limiting safety device
Note: A low-pressure storage tank is a storage tank with a top medium pressure lower than 0.05 MPa.
3.2
atmospheric storage tank
equipment that maintains interior communication with the external atmospheric environment at all times
4 Symbols
The following symbols apply to this document.
A——The reinforcement cross-sectional area required for the opening.
AC——The cross-sectional area of the connection area between the cylinder and the top cover, including the reinforcement cross-sectional area of the cylinder and the top cover.
AT——the cross-sectional area of the cylinder at the analyzed location.
A1——Reinforcement area exceeding the wall thickness of the storage tank.
A2——Reinforcement area exceeding the wall thickness of the nozzle.
D——The average diameter of the cylindrical tank wall.
d——The inner diameter of the opening excluding the corrosion margin.
E——the longitudinal elastic modulus of the material at the design temperature.
F——the resultant force acting outside the cylinder at the position under consideration, excluding W.
Note 1: If W, F and P forces act in the same direction, their positive and negative signs are the same.
5 Basic requirements
5.1 Scope of application of storage tanks
Tanks that meet the following conditions shall comply with the provisions of this document:
——Vertical axisymmetric storage tank;
——Made of steel parts assembled and welded;
——placed on a rigid base;
Note: The meaning of the term rigid means that this document does not apply to tanks installed on loose ground or simply covered with a concrete floor. Unless otherwise specified, the pressures listed in this document are gauge pressures.
——There is a fixed self-supporting top cover;
——The inner diameter is not more than 18m;
——Top medium pressure less than 0.05 MPa (0.5 bar)
5.2 Demarcation between tank and foundation
5.2.1 Flat bottom head tanks mounted directly on the foundation
For the flat-bottomed head storage tank directly installed on the foundation, the boundary between the storage tank and the foundation is the supporting base surface between the storage tank and the foundation.
5.2.2 Tanks mounted on foundations by means of supports
When the tank is connected to its foundation by means of a support, the boundary between the tank and the foundation is the bearing surface between the support and the foundation.
Supports have the following structural forms:
——annular skirt;
——a bracket welded with the storage tank;
——Pillars directly connected to the storage tank.
Supports shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 16702.7.
