0 Preamble
Some characteristics of friction materials may be evaluated by evaluating the small sample on the testing machine in laboratory. As the general testing of materials, this kind of test methods can not guarantee the tested material's suitability in any particular aspect of industrial application. It only provides the quantitative data related to material characteristics.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the test equipments and test procedure for small sample (in designated size) of brake lining material on the bench testing machine, as well as the evaluation method for test results.
This standard is applicable to the lining materials of motor vehicle drum brake and disk brake.
2 Definitions
This standard adopts the following definitions.
2.1 Thermal class A
The condition is equivalent to the fade test carried out at 1050 kPa and 350℃ (see Table 2, A1 in Appendix A and B1 in Appendix B).
2.2 Thermal class B
The condition is equivalent to the fade test carried out at 3000 kPa and 400℃ (see Table 2, A2 in Appendix A and B2 in Appendix B).
2.3 Cold friction
It refers to the mean value of frictions measured at 100℃, 150℃ and 200℃ during the fade test (see Appendix A and Appendix B).
2.4 Hot friction
2.4.1 At thermal class A condition, it refers to the mean value of frictions measured at 300℃ and 350℃ in fade test and 300℃ in recovery test (see A1 in Appendix A and B1 in Appendix B).
2.4.2 At thermal class B condition, it refers to the mean value of frictions measured at 350℃ and 400℃ in fade test and 350℃ in recovery test (see A2 in Appendix A and B2 in Appendix B).
