3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
coatings
any surface layer except a natural oxide layer
Examples: oil, paint, metal coating.
3.2
contaminant
hazardous physical or chemical foreign matters contained in the returns
Examples: water, casting sand.
3.3
inserts
component consisting of metal or other materials which may be moulded into position or put into a finished product
Examples: bearing, screw thread insert.
3.4
returns
magnesium and magnesium alloy materials collected or recovered at various stages of fabrication
3.5
turnings
magnesium and magnesium alloy materials consisting of grains, chips, curls, strips, etc. resulting from machining or other operations
