本标准详细描述了ＥＳＳＩ格式，作为协调系统设计的指导性标准，它致力于减少所需程序的种类，提高编程技术的统一性，促进造船工业中数控绘图仪和火焰切割机之间程序的可交换性。 “ＥＳＳＩ格式”可用于基于穿孔卡片、穿孔纸带、磁带等介质的数据码交换，建议采用标准数据码。 本标准等同采用ＩＳＯ６５８２：１９８３《造船 机器数字控制 ＥＳＳＩ格式》（英文版）。
本标准等同翻译ＩＳＯ６５８２：１９８３。
为便于使用，本标准做了下列编辑性修改：
———本“国际标准”一词改为“本标准”；
———用小数点“．”代替作为小数点的逗号“，”；
———删除国际标准的前言。
