1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination methods for abrasion resistance of single-layer or multi-layer coating of paints, varnishes or relevant products.
This test method applies to determination for abrasion resistance of single-layer or multi-layer coating of paints, varnishes or relevant products by falling abrasive on the coating. The abrasion resistance is expressed by the quantity of abrasive necessary for wearing the coating per unit of thickness.

3 Apparatus and Materials
3.1 Abrasion tester, as shown in Figure 1, equipped with a switch for controlling abrasive flow near the top of the pipe. It is consists of a metal disc that is inserted into the narrow slit on one side of the pipe with a lantern ring covering the slit. The pipe is firmly and vertically placed on the upper part of an appropriate vessel. The equipment shall have a bracket at an included angle of 45° with the vertical position for holding the coating template. The pipe opening shall be dead against the upward side of the area under abrasion. The distance from the pipe to the coating surface shall be 25.4mm as a minimum when measured vertically. The apparatus shall be equipped with adjusting screws at the bottom for the convenience of appropriately adjusting device
