1 Scope
This document describes test methods for the cooling capacity and efficiency of cool storage systems.
This document is applicable to the testing of complete cool storage systems.

3 Terms, definitions and symbols
3.1 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 18517, as well as the following, apply.
3.1.1
cool storage system
A general term for cool storage devices used to meet all or part of the refrigeration load.
Note: The system consists of refrigeration units, cool storage media, cool storage devices or containers, heat rejection equipment or systems, and other auxiliary equipment, or is a subsystem of the overall refrigeration system.
3.1.2
cool storage device
A container and cool storage space for storing cooling capacity.
Note: Includes secondary refrigerants and auxiliary equipment such as heat exchangers, agitators, circulating pumps, flow regulators, valves and baffles.
3.1.3
cool storage cycle
An alternating process of charging and discharging cooling capacity completed in a cool storage device.
Note: In this process, the system starts and ends the cycle in the same state.
3.1.4
cool storage medium
The substance used in the cool storage device for storing cooling capacity.
3.1.5
secondary refrigerant
A fluid medium that transfers cooling capacity from one location to another.
3.1.6
fully charged condition
The state in which the cool storage device no longer increases its stored cooling capacity in accordance with design requirements.
Note: This state is reached when the system normally stops the cool storage cycle.
3.1.7
fully discharged condition
The state in which the cool storage device has no more usable cooling capacity that can be released from it.
3.1.8
cool storage capacity
The maximum amount of cooling capacity stored by the cool storage device for future use.
3.1.9
cool storage system capacity
The maximum amount of cooling capacity provided by the cool storage system relative to a specified design day load profile.
Note: Its value is determined by the cool storage system capacity test.
3.1.10
usable storage capacity
For a given cool storage cycle, the total cooling capacity released from the cool storage device when the discharge temperature is not higher than the maximum usable discharge temperature.
3.1.11
nominal storage capacity
The maximum cool storage capacity of the cool storage device under nominal operating conditions.
3.1.12
storage inventory
The usable cooling capacity stored in the cool storage device at any given time.
3.1.13
discharge capacity
The cool storage capacity of the cool storage device determined by the discharge test.
Note: This cooling capacity is equivalent to the usable storage capacity under fully discharged conditions as defined in the first item of 5.3 k)1).
3.1.14
peak discharge rate
The maximum rate at which the cool storage device releases cooling capacity.

cycle specific energy use
The ratio of the total electricity consumption (kWh) to the total cooling capacity supplied by the cool storage system (kWh) after one or more complete cool storage cycles.
Note: Total electricity consumption refers to all electrical energy input to the cool storage system under test conditions.

cool storage system efficiency
The ratio of the total cooling capacity supplied by the cool storage system (kWh) to the total electricity consumption (kWh) after one or more complete cool storage cycles.
Note: This is the reciprocal of the cycle specific energy use.
3.1.17
storage efficiency
The ratio of the discharge capacity to the charge capacity.
3.1.18
critical discharge point
The point on the load profile curve where the required discharge cooling capacity is greatest relative to the current storage inventory.
3.1.19
load profile
A general description of the cooling load over a period of time.
Note: The load curve covers at least the hourly cooling load for a complete cool storage cycle period. It includes the total hourly load, the cooling output of the refrigeration units and the cool storage devices, and the storage status of the cool storage devices. The load profile refers to the corresponding inlet temperature, outlet temperature and flow rate for each hourly load. Tables A.1 and A.2 list complete data for two examples of load profiles.
