Determination for viscosity of adhesives - Single cylinder rotational viscometer method
1 Scope
This standard specifies the method for determining the viscosity of adhesives by using single cylinder rotational viscometer method.
It is applicable to the determination for viscosity of liquid adhesives.
2 Principle
A cylindrical or disk-shaped rotor rotates at a constant speed in the sample to be determined, and viscous torque is generated due to the resistance of the viscosity of the sample to be determined to the rotor operation, making the elastic element deflect to generate torque. When the viscous torque is balanced with the deflection torque, the viscosity of the sample to be determined is calculated by measuring the deflection angle of the elastic element.
Note: The viscosity determined by a single cylinder rotational viscometer is dynamic viscosity. For non-Newtonian fluids, the shear force is not linearly related to the shear rate, but the viscosity is related to the shear rate. The viscosity determined by a specific rotor at a specific rotating speed is called "apparent viscosity", and this kind of viscosity determination is called "relative determination".
3 Instruments and apparatus
3.1 Single cylinder rotational viscometer: see Figures 1 and 2 for the principle diagram, and see Figure 3 for the schematic diagram of cylindrical or disk-shaped rotor structure.
3.2 Constant temperature bath: it can keep at the specified determining temperature with deviation of ±0.5℃. If it is necessary to determine at a higher temperature, it is recommended to install a connecting rod between the rotor and the instrument.
3.3 Thermometer: with a division value of 0.1℃.
