Textiles - Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
WARNING - Persons using this document shall be familiar with normal laboratory practice. This document does not purport to address all of the safety problems. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to ensure compliance with any national regulatory conditions.
1 Scope
This document describes a method for the determination of 24 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in textiles by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
This document is applicable to all kinds of textiles.
2 Normative references
No normative reference is listed in this document.
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs
aromatic hydrocarbon containing two or more benzene rings
Note: PAHs exhibit two main structural types: one is non-fused ring type, including biphenyls, bipolybenzenes, and polybenzene aliphatic hydrocarbons; the other is fused ring type, which means that every two carbon atoms are common to two benzene rings.
4 Principle
Specimens are extracted by ultrasonic wave. After being purified by silica gel solid phase extraction column if necessary, the extract solutions will be concentrated, diluted to constant volumes, determined by GC-MS, and then quantified by external standard method in selected ion monitoring mode.
