1 Scope This standard specifies the method summary, reagents and materials, instruments and apparatus, determination, calibration, expression of results, precision etc. for determination of total carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content in coal with instrumental method. This standard is applicable to the rapid determination of total carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content in lignite, bituminite and anthracite. 2 Normative References The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. GB/T 212 Proximate Analysis of Coal GB/T 218 Determination of Carbon Dioxide Content in the Mineral Carbonates Associated with Coal GB/T 483 General Rules for Analytical and Testing Methods of Coal 3 Method Summary The coal sample with known mass sufficiently combusts in oxygen stream at high temperature, and the mixture of carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen/nitrogen oxide is generated through complete combustion of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in coal. The influence factors (e.g. the combustion product of sulfur, chlorine etc.) disturbing the determination are filtered through specific handling system and all nitrogen oxide are reduced to nitrogen. The carbon, hydrogen or nitrogen content in coal is quantitatively determined according to carbon dioxide, vapor and nitrogen respectively with specific detection system. 4 Reagents and Materials 4.1 Carrier gas: helium or other suitable gas as specified in the instrument instruction. 4.2 Oxygen: as specified in the instrument instruction. 4.3 Reagents: as specified in the instrument instruction.
