1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, general requirements, comparison samples, flaw detection devices, testing methods, testing records and flaw assessment, steel plate quality grading, testing reports, etc. of electromagnetic automatic ultrasonic testing for thicker steel plates.
This standard is applicable to electromagnetic automatic ultrasonic testing for steel plates for boilers, pressure vessels, bridges, buildings, shipbuilding, pipelines, molds and other purposes with a thickness of not less than 6mm. It may also serve as a reference for steel plates of other specifications.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced documents (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 12604.1 and GB/T 20935.1 apply.
4 General requirements
4.1 The surface of the plate under testing shall be smooth and free of foreign matters affecting the testing results.
4.2 The size and shape of the steel plate under testing shall meet the requirements of automatic flaw detection equipment.
4.3 The testing site shall be protected from strong light, high-intensity magnetic field, violent vibration, corrosive gas, serious dust and other factors that affect the stability of electromagnetic ultrasonic flaw detector or reliable observation of testing personnel.
