1 Scope
This standard specifies the specimens, test apparatus and reagents, test procedures, calculations, test results and test reports, etc. in the test of resin content of carbon fiber reinforced plastics.
This standard is applicable to carbon fiber reinforced plastics in which sulfuric acid may completely decompose the resin matrix under certain conditions without excessively corroding the fibers.
2 Normative reference
The following document contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated reference, subsequent amendment to (excluding any corrigendum), or revision of, any of the publication does not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the latest editions of the standards indicated below. For undated reference, the latest edition of the normative document applies.
GB/T 1463 Test methods for density and relative density of fiber reinforced plastics
3 Principle of method
For specimens of known mass, the matrix part is digested by hot sulfuric acid medium. The residue containing the reinforced material is filtered, cleaned, dried, cooled and weighed after the matrix is dissolved in hot sulfuric acid. The mass fraction of reinforced material is calculated. The fiber volume fraction is calculated according to the densities of composite material and reinforced material.
The mass of reinforced material needs to be corrected if it changes during digestion.
4 Specimen
4.1 Specimen mass and thickness
The specimen mass is about 0.5g and the thickness of specimen is less than 3mm.
