Textiles - Determination of the drying rate of fabrics at their absorbent capacity
1 Scope
This document describes a method for determining the drying rate of fabrics at their absorbent capacity under specified conditions.
This document applies to all types of fabrics and their products.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
absorbent capacity
maximum amount of water that a specimen can absorb under specified conditions
3.2
drying rate
amount of water evaporated in the specimen within a unit time under specified conditions
Note: The drying rate is affected by the microstructure, fiber composition and finishing process of sample, as well as the test atmospheric conditions, water volume added, and other factors during test.
3.3
drying time
time required for the evaporation of all water applied to a specimen under specified conditions
Note: In this document, a series of different volumes of water are added to the specimen, and different volumes of water correspond to different drying times.
3.4
start time
moment when the specimen is in contact with water when water is added to the specimen
3.5
end time
moment when all the water applied to the specimen evaporates
Note: The end time is the point in the temperature-time curve where the straight line fitted to the part of the curve with the highest slope before all the water is dried intersects with the straight line fitted to the flat part of the curve after all the water is dried.
4 Principle
Determine the absorbent capacity Vm of the specimen under the specified conditions, and then select the volumes of water droplets of about 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% and not more than 90% of Vm as the water volumes to be added, add water of these volumes to the specimen respectively, measure the time required for the specimen to recover to the initial temperature after each addition of water, and then calculate the drying rate corresponding to each water volume added. The drying rate of the specimen at the absorbent capacity can be calculated by non-linear fitting of the five sets of different water volumes and their corresponding drying rates.
