GB/T 45245-2025 Determination method of total organic carbon in wood-based panels and finishing products
1 Scope
This document describes a determination method for the total organic carbon (TOC) in wood-based panels and finishing products by non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) absorption spectrometry, involving reagents, apparatus, specimen preparation, determination procedure, data processing and result presentation, and reporting.
This document applies to the determination of total organic carbon in wood-based panels and finishing products.
This document is not applicable to the determination of total organic carbon in wood-based panels and finishing products containing carbonate minerals as the main primary additive.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 18259-2018 and the following apply.
3.1
wood-based panel
panel or formed product composed of material units mainly made from wood or non-wood plant fibers, with or without adhesive and any other additive applied
Note: Mainly including plywood, particleboard, and fiberboard.
[Source: GB/T 18259-2018, 2.1]
3.2
total carbon
total content of elemental carbon in a wood-based panel and finishing product
Note: Including organic carbon content and inorganic carbon content.
3.3
total organic carbon
total content of elemental carbon existing in organic form in a wood-based panel and finishing product
3.4
total inorganic carbon
total content of elemental carbon existing in inorganic form in a wood-based panel and finishing product
Note: Including elemental carbon in the form of carbonate or bicarbonate.
4 Method description
A proper amount of specimen of a wood-based panel and finishing product is oxidized into carbon dioxide gas under high-temperature oxygen-rich conditions. The gas is introduced into a non-dispersive infrared detector for it to measure the infrared absorption spectrum intensity. The total carbon is quantitatively measured by external standard method.
In the wood-based panel and finishing product, when the total inorganic carbon is below the allowable error in the total carbon measurement result, the total organic carbon is represented as the total carbon.
