1. Scope
This Part of GB/T 5008 specifies the technical requirement, test methods, test rules, markings, packaging, transportation and storage of lead-acid starter batteries.
This Part is applicable to exhaust (rich solution) lead-acid battery (hereinafter referred to as "battery") and valve-regulated (with gas recombination function) battery for starting, igniting and lighting of various automobiles, tractors and other internal combustion engines in rated voltage of 12V.
This Part is not applicable to batteries for other purposes, such as starting battery for railway motor car.
2. Normative References
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this Part, constitute provisions of this Part. For dated reference, subsequent amendments (excluding content of corrigenda) to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, Parties to agreements based on this Part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the Part indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. GB/T 5008.2 Lead-Acid Starter Batteries--Kinds of Products and Specifications

3. Terms and Symbols
C20——20 h of rated capacity, Ah;
I20——20 h of discharge current, the numerical value is C20/20, A;
Ce——20 h of practical capacity, Ah;
Is——Starting current, the numerical value sees GB/T 5008.2, A;
Cr, n——rated idle capacity, min;
Cr, e——Practical idle capacity, min;
Io——Discharge current of charge acceptance test, the numerical value sees 5.6, A.
Ica——the current value when the charge acceptance test is charged for 10 min, A;
Category A battery——batteries with 20 h of rated capacity of less than 100 Ah;
Category B batteries——batteries with 20 h of rated capacity of greater than or equal to 100 Ah;
Exhaust (rich solution) batteries——exhaust battery is the secondary battery with one or more openings and whose battery cover separating out gas products
Valve-regulated (with gas recombination function) battery——Valve-regulated battery is sealed under normal conditions, when the internal pressure exceeds a predetermined value; it is a second battery with devices separating out gas. Such a battery cannot be added with electrolyte when it is normal. In such a battery, the electrolyte is stagnant.
4. Technical Requirement
4.1 Capacity
4.1.1 Rated idle capacity
4.1.1.1 Rated idle capacity Cr, n shall comply with the requirements of national standard GB/T 5008.2.
4.1.1.2 The practical idle capacity Cr, e shall reach the rated idle capacity Cr, n in the third or prior idle capacity test.
4.1.2 20 h of rated capacity
4.1.2.1 The rated capacity C20 shall comply with the requirements of national standard GB/T 5008.2.
4.1.2.2 The practical capacity Ce shall be no less than 95% of the rated capacity C20 in the third or prior capacity test.
4.1.3 Capacity test gives priority to 4.1.1 rated idle capacity, but also can use 4.1.2 20 h of rated capacity. Whereas the adoption of rated idle capacity and 20 h of rated capacity shall be determined by the manufacturer.
4.2 Cold-starting ability
4.2.1 When the battery is tested by 5.5, it discharges with 1s current; in 5s, the battery terminal voltage shall not be less than 9.00V; in 6s, the average voltage of single battery shall not be less than 8.40V.
4.2.2 When the cold-starting ability shall be tested in the third or prior cold-starting ability, it meets the requirements of 4.2.1.
