本标准规定了顶杆法和示差法耐火材料热膨胀试验方法。本标准适用于测定耐火材料的线膨胀率或平均线膨胀系数。本标准代替GB/T 7320.1-2000 耐火材料热膨胀试验方法（顶杆法）和GB/T 7320.2-2000 耐火材料热膨胀试验方法（望远镜法）。
本标准与GB/T 7320-2000相比主要差异如下：
——保留了顶杆法；
——删除了望远镜；
——增加了根据EN 993-19：2004《致密定形耐火制品试验方法 第19部分：示差法热膨胀的测定》（英文）制定的示差法；
——修改了对加热炉和位移测量系统的要求；
——将原标准的附录改为标准的章节。
