This standard is applicable to the determination of toughness index of synthetic diamond with grain size of 16/18~325/400.

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
impact frequency
revolution number in unit time of the driving gear of toughness index determinator, expressed in r/min
3.2
impact counts
revolution number of driving gear in the duration that the specimen is subject to impact
3.3
unbroken ratio
ratio of the mass of residue on sieve of the specimen after being subject to certain impact counts according to specified impact frequency and sieved according to the specified conditions to the initial mass of specimen, expressed as a percentage
3.4
toughness index
capability of specimen to resist the impact effect, without breaking. The index value shall be represented by the unbroken ratio multiplied by 100
