3.1 Basic type
There are seven basic types of mechanical seals for pumps:
a) Type 103: Built-in type, single end face, single-spring, unbalanced, parallel-coil spring transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 1;
b) Type B103: Built-in type, single end face, single-spring, balanced, parallel-coil spring transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 2;
c) Type 104: Built-in type, single end face, single-spring, unbalanced sleeve transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 3; see its derivative type 104a in Figure 4;
d) Type B104: Built-in type, single end face, single-spring, balanced sleeve transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 5; see its derivative type B104a in Figure 6;
e) Type 105: Built-in type, single end face, multi-spring, unbalanced screw transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 7;
f) Type B105: Built-in type, single end face, multi-spring, balanced screw transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 8;
g) Type 114: Externally-mounted type, single seal, single spring, over-balanced fork transmission mechanical seal, as shown in Figure 9; see its derivative Type 114a in Figure 10.
