Sherardizing of iron and steel articles
1 Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements and test methods for sherardizing of iron and steel articles (hereinafter referred to as "sherardizing").
This standard is applicable to sherardizing of parts and members made of carbon steel, low alloy steel, cast iron, etc.
This standard is not applicable to the sherardizing of iron and steel articles that need to be tempered at a temperature below 340℃ to meet the mechanical properties requirements of the articles.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this standard, constitute provisions of this standard. At the time of publication, all editions cited are valid. All normative documents are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below.

3 Definitions
3.1 sherardizing
a surface treatment process of forming a sherardized coating on the surface of iron or steel by inter-diffusion of zinc and iron atoms which are produced by heating the sherardizing medium which is used as the source of zinc
3.2 sherardized coating
a coating of zinc-iron alloy layers formed on the surface of iron or steel by inter-diffusion of zinc and iron atoms
3.3 sherardizing medium
sherardizing medium consisting of zinc supplying component containing zinc atoms, with or without filling component and activating component as required
