本标准规定了使用测量传感器三测点采样，经误差分离、计算半径变化来确定圆度误差的方法及仪器的精度评定。本标准适用于在给定条件下，经轮廓变换，下列任一圆心来评定零件轮廓对理想圆的偏离： a. 最小区域圆圆心； b. 最小二乘方圆圆心； c. 最小外接圆圆心； d. 最大内接圆圆心。本标准规定的方法除可用于一般精度的圆度测量外，还适应于高精度及长度、直径或重量超过一般仪器使用范围的零件的圆度测量。
