本部分规定了室外光缆连接器的产品分类和表示方法、技术要求、试验方法、检验规则、包装、运输和贮存。
本部分适用于室外通信用光缆线路中架空、管道（隧道）、直埋等敷设方式安装使用的光缆连接器，也适用于电力通信用光纤复合架空地线的连接器。
本部分不适用于海底光缆连接器、应急光缆连接器。光电复合缆的光学部分连接器可参照本部分。
