1 Subject content and application scope
This standard specifies the general methods for determining the position and size of flaws and for evaluating flaws, as well as classification methods for the quality of welds by ultrasonic testing using single angle beam probe to detect hollow spheres of steel space grid structures with welded joints, welds of sphere pipes, and butt welds of steel pipes.
This standard is applicable to A scope manual ultrasonic pulse-echo testing for hollow spheres welded by common carbon steel and low alloy steel—whose base metal thickness is 4 mm~25 mm, sphere diameter is not less than 120 mm, and pipe diameter is not less than 76 mm, and for welds of sphere pipes and butt welds of steel pipes, and it is also applicable to quality classification based on ultrasonic testing results.

3 Inspection personnel
3.1 Inspection personnel engaged in flaw detection for grid structures with welded joints must equip with basic knowledge and skills of ultrasonic testing, have experience in flaw detection for surface welded joints, have been trained and assessed in accordance with relevant national provisions, and possess qualification certificates of non-destructive testing(NDT) issued by relevant assessment organizations.
3.2 On-site ultrasonic testing must comply with relevant safety regulations. If testing conditions do not meet the testing process requirements or do not suit for safe operation, it is within the right of inspection personnel to stop and then restore the testing until the conditions are improved to meet the requirements.
3.3 The vision of inspection personnel shall be checked once a year, and the corrected vision shall not be less than 5.0 according to GB 11533.
