Highways are classified into freeways, arterial highways, secondary highways, tertiary highways and Class IV highways in the current national standard "Technical Standard of Highway Engineering". 1.0.7 Climatic Zoning for Highway The physiographical regions are divided according to the influence of such conditions as climate, hydrology, geology, topography and other conditions throughout the country on the highway engineering to provide the relevant parameters for subgrade/pavement design and route survey. "Climatic Zoning Map for Highway of the People's Republic of China" is listed in the current national standard "Standard of Climatic Zoning for Highway". 1.0.8 Highway Right-of-way Zones are expropriated for building and maintaining the highway as well as the highway-side facilities in accordance with the national requirements.
