This standard is a revision of QB/T 1023-2007 Mechanical pencils.
In addition to a number of editorial changes, the following main technical changes have been made with respect to QB/T 1023-2007:
——The classification is modified (see Clause 3; Clause 3 of Edition 2007);
——The designation of lead with nominal diameter of 1.3mm is added (see 3.2);
——The requirements for force of clamping lead, exerted force of nib, length of lead projection and elasticity of metal clip are modified (see 4.1; Clause 4 in Edition 2007);
——The requirements and test methods for lead residual length and migration element content are added (see 4.1, 4.2, 6.5 and 6.11);
——The test methods for durability are modified (see 6.6; 5.5 of Edition 2007);
——The shelf life is deleted (see 7.4 of Edition 2007);
——The recommended dimensions of guide pipes of mechanical pencils are added (see Annex A).
This standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Writing Instrument of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 378).
The previous editions of this standard are as follows:

Mechanical pencils
1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules as well as marking, packaging, transportation and storage of mechanical pencils.
It is applicable to push-type and screw-type mechanical pencils.
It is not applicable to auto-compensating mechanical pencils.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated reference, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

QB/T 1024 Black leads for mechanical pencils
3 Classification
3.1 Classification by type of mechanism
The mechanical pencils are classified into push-type and screw-type ones according to the type of mechanism, and the former type is subdivided into back-push type, side-push type and knock-type ones.
3.2 Classification by nominal diameter of the lead
See Table 1 for the classification of mechanical pencils by nominal diameter of the lead.
