1 Scope
This standard specifies the laboratory performance test methods of air cleaners for automobiles for the purpose of comparison of the laboratory performance test results.
This standard is applicable to the performance test of air cleaner assembly (hereinafter referred to as assembly) and filter element for automobiles, and for reference by performance test of assembly and filter element for engineering machinery, agricultural and forestry machinery, ships and fixed power.
2 Normative References
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this standard, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, all parties coming to an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies.

3 Terms, Definitions, Parameters, Symbols and Units
3.1 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1.1
air filter; air cleaner
device which removes particles suspended in the air as it is drawn in the engine
3.1.2
oil-bath air cleaner
air cleaner which can lead the dusty air to oil bath and make a part of dust adhere to engine oil under the action of inertial force, while the dusty air containing oil mist repasses the filter element and is further filtered, making the dust adhered to filter element return to the oil bath along with the engine oil
