Efficacy evaluation of toothpaste—Part 1: General principles
1 Scope
This part of WS/T 326 specifies the definition of toothpaste efficacy, the scope and general principles of efficacy evaluation and the requirements of clinical tests.
This part is applicable to toothpaste products that are labeled to have certain efficacy, and of which the physical and chemical properties, hygiene and safety indexes meet the corresponding national standards.
2 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply:
2.1
efficacy of anti-caries
function of that product can control the formation of caries by inhibiting demineralization or promoting remineralization of teeth, or prevent caries by reducing plaque bacteria and their acid production
2.2
efficacy of control dental plaque of gingivitis
function of that product can inhibit dental plaque and/or reduce gingivitis such as redness, swelling and bleeding through chemical composition
2.3
efficacy on dentin hypersensitivity
function of that product has dentin hypersensitivity symptoms (i.e., abnormal short and sharp pain caused by chemical and physical stimuli such as cold, heat, acid and sweet probing)
3 Scope of efficacy evaluation
The efficacy of anti-caries, efficacy of control dental plaque of gingivitis and efficacy on dentin hypersensitivity;
