General description
1. This drawing gallery is a collection of professional drawings of manholes and handholes for communication conduit engineering construction.
2. This drawing gallery covers standard series of brick manholes and handholes, concrete block manholes and fittings.
3. This drawing gallery is applicable to the constructed communication conduit engineering. For the renovated and extended communication conduit engineering, the relevant provisions of this drawing gallery may be applicable based on local material supply and construction site conditions, environment, municipal requirements, etc.
4. The bearing capacity of manhole and handhole overlay is determined according to factors such as the maximum load that may occur at the place where it is set. The bearing capacity of the hole ring installed on the overlay shall be matched with that of the overlay.
5. Where the manhole and handhole exceed the dimensions and use conditions specified herein, their foundation, wall and overlay structure shall be calculated separately.
6. For the purpose of this drawing gallery, the specifications and dimensions in the manhole drawings, handhole drawings and fitting drawings are in millimeters.

1. Applicable conditions
(1) This standard series of manholes and handholes have four walls of brick masonry structure, plain concrete foundations, and precast overlays.
(2) This standard series is suitable for use in environments where the foundation soil and groundwater are not corrosive or micro-corrosive and in areas geologically solid, with seismic fortification intensity of 8 and below.
(3) The environmental category IIb is considered in the calculation of the overlay slab: Wet-dry alternating environment; environment with frequent changes of water level; open-air environment in severe cold and cold regions; environment above the freezing line and in direct contact with non-erosive water or soil in severe cold and cold regions. The manhole (handhole) overlays exceeding the requirements of the above environmental category (saline soil environment, coastal environment, etc.) shall be recalculated.
(4) The characteristic value of foundation bearing capacity of building manholes (handholes), fak, shall be ≥100kPa.
(5) For manholes with four walls of 240mm in thickness, the maximum permissible value of their internal clear height is 2.7m; for those with four walls of 370mm in thickness, the maximum permissible value of their internal clear height is 4.0m. For manholes exceeding the above height ranges, the strength of their four walls shall be recalculated.

3. Specifications, types, and applicable conduit hole capacities and positions
(1) Specifications and applicable conduit hole capacities
4. Loads
(1) The thickness of covering soil on the manhole (handhole) overlay shall not be greater than 100mm.
(2) The maximum vehicle wheel pressure on the manhole (handhole) overlay is 70kN.
(3) The standard value of the live load on the manhole (handhole) overlay is 4kN/m2, which is 2kN/m2 when the maximum wheel pressure is considered.
(4) The dead weight of members has been considered in the design, so it does not need to be included when selecting members.
(5) Manholes are classified as follows according to the load-bearing capacity of the manhole overlay:
a. Manholes suitable for setting at places where heavy trucks pass on expressways and trunk roads.
b. Manholes suitable for setting at places where heavy trucks pass on secondary trunk roads and branch roads.
c. Manholes for which the value of vehicle load is calculated according to the standard rear axle weight of 2×140kN of "Class I highway", which is the same as the rear axle weight of "Automobile - Class super 20" in the former code.
5. Materials
(1) Concrete strength grade: C25 for precast members; C15 for foundation.
(2) Steel bars: HPB300 and HRB335 hot-rolled steel bars.
(3) Masonry structures: According to the building materials in the area where the engineering is located, sintered common bricks permitted within the scope of national policies may be used, of which the strength grade shall not be less than MU10; in case of cement mortar, the strength grade shall be M10.
6. Applicable scenarios of manhole (handhole) rings
The manhole (handhole) rings made of ductile cast iron are suitable for installation in load-bearing or non-load-bearing places; those made of glass fiber are only suitable for installation in non-load-bearing places such as green belts or pedestrian walkways.
7. Others
(1) The thickness of reinforced concrete cover for precast overlay shall be 25mm.
(2) Groundwater or surface water on site, if any, shall be lowered and drained first. The masonry shall be built with the waterproof brick wall masonry method of "5 stretcher courses to 1 header course alternately", and the masonry mortar shall be fully laid. The horizontal and vertical joints of the walls shall be full of mortar.
(3) The front and back sides of the precast overlay shall be indicated after fabrication.
(4) Before and after the precast overlay is installed in place, M10 cement mortar shall be applied for grouting and sealing.
(5) The backfill soil shall be evenly backfilled along the periphery and compacted in layers after the overlay installation is completed and the required strength is reached.
(6) This standard series shall be provided with C15 plain concrete foundation. If there are other requirements in engineering design, the design requirements shall be followed.
(7) When the manhole (handhole) overlay slab is poured on the manhole (handhole) masonry (i.e. on-site pouring), the thickness of the manhole (handhole) overlay slab block shall remain unchanged, and the preparation of steel bars shall still comply with this series of drawings.
(8) The mouth cavities of manholes (handholes) shall preferably be made of concrete instead of brickwork.
(9) The La value of structural steel bars at the edge of the hole shall not be less than 420mm.
(10) For conduit windows with a width of greater than 600mm, precast concrete lintels shall be added.
(11) The number of lifting points in the hoisting of the manhole (handhole) overlay slabs with four hooks reserved shall not be less than 3.
(12) The dimensions of the reserved window for conduit in manholes (handholes) shall be determined based on the cross-sectional form of the conduit combination or group.

(7) When the manhole (handhole) overlay slab is poured on the manhole (handhole) masonry (i.e. on-site pouring), the thickness of the manhole (handhole) overlay slab block shall remain unchanged, and the preparation of steel bars shall still comply with this series of drawings.
(8) The mouth cavities of manholes (handholes) shall preferably be made of concrete instead of brickwork.
(9) The La value of structural steel bars at the edge of the hole shall not be less than 420mm.
(10) For conduit windows with a width of greater than 600mm, precast concrete lintels shall be added.
(11) The number of lifting points in the hoisting of the manhole (handhole) overlay slabs with four hooks reserved shall not be less than 3.
(12) The dimensions of the reserved window for conduit in manholes (handholes) shall be determined based on the cross-sectional form of the conduit combination or group.
