Liquid penetrant inspection of metallic surgical implants
1 Scope
This standard specifies the methods, inspection levels, acceptable limits, inspection records, control of penetrant materials, qualification examination for penetrant inspection personnel for the liquid penetrant inspection of metallic surgical implants.
This standard is applicable to the inspection of surface discontinuities or defects of metallic surgical implants.

3 Inspection methods
3.1 Inspection conditions
The surface of test piece under inspection shall be cleaned by washing and free from matters that impedes the liquid penetrant inspection or produces a false indication of penetrant.
3.1.1 Surface pre-cleaning1)
1) Appropriate cleaning materials and processes shall be selected to remove the grease on the surface of the test piece.
2) Surface of the test piece under inspection and any discontinuous defects therein shall be cleaned and free from contamination.
