1.0.4 The design of municipal bridge shall not only meet the requirements stipulated in this code, but also comply with those in the current relevant ones of the nation.
2 Terms and Symbols
2.1 Terms
2.1.1 Reliability
The capacity of structure completing intended function under specified conditions within the specified time.
2.1.2 Degree of reliability
The probability of structure completing intended function under specified conditions within the specified time.
2.1.3 Design flood frequency
The monochronic average time interval of the flood of certain strength is adopted as the flood recurrence interval in the design, and its reciprocal is regarded as the flood frequency.
2.1.4 Design period
The time parameter selected to determine the value of variable action and time-dependent material performance during the structural reliability analysis.
2.1.5 Design working life
The service life for intended purpose of the structure or structural member without being overhauled, as specified in the design.
2.1.6 Action (load)
The concentrated force or distributed force (direct action, also known as load) imposed on structure and the cause for imposed deformation or constrained deformation (indirect action) of structure.
2.1.7 Permanent action
The action with the quantity not varying with time during the structure use period, or of which the variation may be neglected compared with the average.
2.1.8 Variable action
The action with the quantity varying with time during the structure use period, or of which the variation may not be neglected compared with the average.
2.1.9 Accidental action
The action with little occurrence probability during the structure use period, but once occurs, it will have a significant value and short duration.
2.1.10 Effect of action
The reaction of structure or structural member caused by action, such as internal force, deformation, crack and etc.
2.1.11 Combination for action effects
The random superposition of effects respectively generated by several actions on the structure or structural member.
2.1.12 Design situation
A group of physical conditions representing a certain time interval. The structure shall live up to not exceeding the related limit state in the design.
2.1.13 Limit state
A certain functional requirement specified in the design that the structure or member fails to meet when exceeding specific state, such state is the limit state of this function.
