本标准适用于装有额定分断能力不小于6kA的封闭式限流熔断体的熔断器。该熔断器作为保护标称电压不超过1000V的交流工频电路或标称电压不超过1500V的直流电路用。本部分系列标准中具体的相关部分里包括了那些应用在特殊条件下的熔断器的补充要求。作为包括在GB 14048.3《低压开关设备和控制设备第3部分：开关、隔离器、隔离开关及熔断器组合电器》中的熔断体亦应符合下列要求。本部分的目的是规定熔断器或熔断器部件（熔断器底座、载熔件、熔断体）的特性，如果它们具有互换性（包括尺寸等），它们就可以由具有相同特性的熔断器或熔断器部件来互换。为此目的，本部分特别涉及到下述方面：――熔断器特性：a) 额定值；b) 绝缘；c) 正常使用下的温升；d) 耗散功率和接受功率；e) 时间/电流特性；f) 分断能力；g) 截断电流特性和I2t特性。――为验证熔断器特性的型式试验；――熔断器标志。
