Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules of photometric characteristics of direction indicators for motor vehicles and their trailers.
This standard applies to various direction indicators for vehicles of Categories M, N and O.
In this standard, the above direction indicators are also known as device.

3 Terminologies and Definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the terminologies and definitions specified in GB 4785 apply.
4 Classification
4.1 Category of direction indicators
Specify the device category and light distribution minimum angle (see Figure 1) according to the installation position on vehicle and function:
a) Category 1 device: front direction indicator with the distance between installation position and dipped-beam headlamp or front fog lamp not less than 40mm;
b) Category 1a device: front direction indicator with the distance between installation position and dipped-beam headlamp or front fog lamp greater than 20mm but less than 40mm;
c) Category 1b device: front direction indicator with the distance between installation position and dipped-beam headlamp or front fog lamp not greater than 20mm;
d) Category 2a device: rear direction indicator installed at rear part of vehicle and with one-level light intensity;
e) Category 2b device: rear direction indicator installed at rear part of vehicle and with two-level light intensity;
f) Category 3 device: side-front direction indicator used in the occasion where vehicle is only equipped with side direction indicator of this category;
g) Category 4 device: side-front direction indicator used in the occasion where vehicle is equipped with device of category 2a or 2b;
