1 Scope
This document specifies the same type judgment, general requirements, requirements for light source, requirements for photometric characteristics, chromaticity requirements, test methods and inspection rules of light-signalling devices and systems for motor vehicles and their trailers.
This document is applicable to the design, manufacturing and acceptance of front position lamp, rear position lamp, direction-indicator lamp, stop lamp, reversing lamp, end-outline marker lamp, parking lamp, daytime running lamp, rear-registration plate illuminating device, rear fog lamp, manoeuvring lamp, side marker lamp, light-signalling projection unit and other light-signalling devices and systems used in category M, category N and category O motor vehicles.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 4785 and the following apply.
3.1
light-signalling device
a unit or a group of units used to send light signals to other road users, indicating the presence of a vehicle or a change in its motion state, to achieve one or more functions
Note: It is referred to as "device" in this document, including one or more of front position lamp, rear position lamp, direction-indicator lamp, stop lamp, reversing lamp, end-outline marker lamp, parking lamp, daytime running lamp, rear-registration plate illuminating device, rear fog lamp, manoeuvring lamp, side marker lamp and light-signalling projection unit.

light-signalling system
system consisting of multiple devices and control gears on the same side or both sides, which is used to send light signals to other road users, indicating the presence of a vehicle or a change in its motion state
Note: It is referred to as "system" in this document.

stop lamp
lamp for indicating to other road users in rear of the vehicle that the vehicle is braking
