GB 17927-2024 Safety technical specification of flame resistance for furniture
Safety technical specification of flame resistance for furniture
1 Scope
This document specifies the requirements, inspection rules, and marking of the flame resistance of furniture, and describes the corresponding confirmation methods.
This document applies to quality control of upholstered furniture and upholstered furniture units.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 28202-2020 and the following apply.
3.1
flame resistance
property of inhibiting, slowing or terminating the spread of flame
3.2
afterglow
exothermic oxidation reaction without flame that occurs in the specimen after removal of the fire source or termination of flaming under the specified test conditions, and spreads spontaneously after being removed from the fire source, sometimes accompanied by incandescent light
3.3
flaming
gaseous combustion process accompanied by luminescence
3.4
ignition
afterglow or flaming of the specimen under the action of the fire source
4 Requirements
The flame resistance of upholstered furniture and furniture with upholstered units in typical places of use shall not be lower than those specified in Table 1.
Table 1 Safety technical requirements for flame resistance

5 Ignition criteria
5.1 Ignition due to afterglow
The following phenomena are regarded as ignition due to afterglow.
a) Progressive smouldering occurs on a specimen to the extent that continuation of the test would jeopardize safety, and effective measures shall be taken for fire extinguishment.
b) During a test, the upholstered portion of the specimen basically smoulders out.
c) During a test, the specimen smoulders completely to its end, e.g., to the other side of the specimen or to/through the entire thickness of the specimen.
