Motor vehicle main dimensions measurement method
1 Scope
This standard specifies the measurement methods for motor vehicle main dimensions.
The measurement methods for external dimensions and luggage compartment/cargo dimensions specified in this standard are applicable to Categories M and N vehicles. It may also serve as a reference for other vehicles.
The measurement methods for internal dimensions specified in this standard are applicable to Category M1 vehicles. It may also serve as a reference for other vehicles.

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 1589, GB/T 3730.2, GB/T 3730.3-1992, GB/T 29120-2012 as well as the following apply. For the convenience of application, some terms and definitions specified in GB/T 29120-2012 are listed below.

vehicle coordinate system
system composed of three vertical orthogonal planes that are interrelated, which is used to determine the positional relation of planes, axes and points, as shown in Figure 1

3.2 H-point and H-point measurement machine
3.2.1
H-point
for HPM, H-point is the rotation center of torso and thigh, which is the simulated hinge center of human torso and thigh, and is used to determine the actual H-point of seating; for HPM-II, H-point is the hinge center point of seating panel assembly and back panel assembly and is located on the lateral centerline of HPM-II or HPD
Notes:
1 For HPM, H-point is located on the central plane of HPM and at the midpoint of the line connecting the H-point marking buttons on both sides of the machine.
2 For HPM-II, H-point is also the intersection of the seating cushion line and the torso line. Where HPM-II is properly placed on the vehicle, the position of H-point relative to the vehicle serves as the base point of vehicle whatever in CAD or actual physical machine. If the seating is moved, the position of H-point of the vehicle will change accordingly. Therefore, the adjustable seating has more than one H-point position, while the fixed seating has only one H-point position.

actual H-point

R-point
